Visit us in Musanze, Rwanda!

Take a tour of Umuzabibu Mwiza, home to Handspun Hope.

Meet the women and witness firsthand how they participate in the age old craft of spinning yarn from the fleeces of their own flock of Merino sheep.

Experience handmade.

Using only hand tools and spinning wheels, discover how the women create organic yarn and dye it naturally with native plant materials such as cosmos petals, onionskins and eucalyptus leaves.

Find a Fair Trade keepsake.

After your tour, you will have an opportunity to purchase the Handspun Hope yarn, felted and handknit products that you see in process! We are certain you will find the perfect keepsake to take home from your trip to Rwanda, made with love.

Why wool?

During the atrocities of the 1994 Rwandan Genocide against the Tutsi, the rare skill of spinning wool into yarn was completely lost. However, in 2008 Handspun Hope reintroduced this craft, along with Merino sheep to Rwanda, so the trade could employ widows and at-risk women.

Tailor your tour.

Choose from our selection of tours and experiences, including hands-on learning and the chance to knit your own hat.

“Handspun Hope is a place of refuge filled with incredibly talented women who are wonderful artisans. Truly a wonderful experience — it is community like no other. You will be inspired and amazed at the quality of yarn, the process and the beauty they create.”
