Florida was born in Ruhengeri in 1964. Florida had a good childhood, but she was not able to attend school. By the time she was 15, she worked in the fields as a shepherd for the family. At age 18 she married an older man. He died in 1994 during the war due to sickness. Together they had three children who are now 27, 25, and 18.
Florida began going to church in 1994 right before the genocide, but then had to flee to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for safety. While in the DRC she became pregnant with her youngest child; also during this time, her husband passed. One night she had a dream about the church coming to her. She repented and has forever since followed Jesus.
After the death of her husband she began caring for another child who is now 15. Florida struggled providing for herself and her children. She would cultivate the land of other people to earn an income and was worried that her children would starve.
Florida says that working at True Vineyard Ministries is good because she has work every day but is able to buy food and other things the children need. Today her heart is happy because she knows Jesus and her children are safe from starvation. Florida attends the Nazarene Church.
